"Publisher of the Year 1999 & 2000"
Bloomsbury Publishing, the people who brought us Harry Potter, was inherited in 1994. The setup consisted of a single Novell Netware 3.12 server that was shared across two locations in Soho Square. Initially we were requested to standardise Email and web browsing services. This was accomplished by installing CC:Mail along with an ISDN router for Internet connectivity. Whilst this was happening we also cabled and relocated them into new office.
The establishing of a reference department allowed the development of the Encarta® World English Dictionary. After outgrowing the head office this department was later moved to larger offices.
The integration of A & C Black and an additional office in Huntingdon saw the user base grow from 25 to over 200 and a network consisting of 4 sites utilising Cisco routers leased lines and high speed line of sight links. The introduction of new servers was managed alongside an upgrade to Netware 4 for file and printing and a migration to Microsoft NT incorporating Exchange Server for Email. This migration also included the uniting of the disparate operating systems (Macintosh and PC) onto a single network infrastructure.
BVR were also involved in a joint venture to link Bloomsbury with their distribution company so they can access Unix based systems directly from their Windows 95 terminals for sales tracking and stock availability.
Phase 1 of the security review project has allowed the sales team to work remotely via their laptops, incorporating the latest in VPN technology.
All hardware is built by BVR to meet their specific requirements.
